Clearing your browser history, cookies, and cached files can fix sign-in problems and other common issues. This article explains how to clear your browser data in Safari and Chrome on Mac and on Safari or Chrome for iPad.
Before You Begin
- Save any work in your browser before clearing your data.
- Be aware that clearing your history and cookies may sign you out of websites.
Important: Clearing your browser history and cache may remove saved website data and require you to sign in again.
How To Clear Your Browser History and Cache
Mac
Safari
- Open Safari.
Select Safari > Clear History.
Select the Clear menu.
Choose All History.
Select Clear History.
Expected result: Safari clears your browsing history and website data.
Chrome
- Open Chrome.
Select Chrome > Delete Browsing Data.
Select the following options:
- Browsing history
- Cookies and other site data
- Cached images and files
- Open the Time Range menu.
Choose All Time.
Select Delete Data.
Expected result: Chrome removes your selected browsing data.
iPad
Safari or Chrome
Open the Settings app.
- Select Safari or Chrome, depending on the browser you use.
Select Clear History and Website Data.
- If this option is blue, your browser history has not been cleared.
- If this option is gray, your browser history has already been cleared.
- Select All History.
Select Clear History.
Expected result: Your browser history and website data are removed.
