Devices and Web Browsers
To run Multitudes, two (2) WiFi-enabled digital devices are required. One (1) for the test administrator and one (1) for the child. Any device will work, such as computers, tablets, or Chromebooks. It’s recommended to use devices of the same operating system. Devices must connect to the internet using the same browser (Safari or Chrome).
Please note, you cannot administer Multitudes using a mobile phone.
- The recommended web browsers to use when accessing Multitudes are Safari and Chrome. It is strongly recommended to use the most up to date version of Safari or Chrome.
- Headphones are recommended. Sound will come from the child’s device, and using headphones can help with understanding audio directions and block out background noise.
Platform Troubleshooting + Support
- Make sure all devices and Safari or Chrome web browsers are updated to the latest versions.
- Avoid pressing buttons too quickly or repeatedly, as this can cause the platform to freeze.
- If a page seems stuck, try refreshing your browser.
- Close any other open web pages or applications.
- Double-check that the web address (URL) is typed correctly: https://multitudes.ucsf.edu
- Some school locations may block content or services required for the Multitudes screener due to IT-managed content filters. If key services are blocked, test administrators and students may experience issues—such as missing images or audio.
- Wi-Fi strength can impact how quickly images load and audio plays. Test administrators can do a test run of the Multitudes platform in the location(s) they will be screening to make sure it works properly. A testing playground for Multitudes is provided during account set up.
- If your team uses browser extensions, it’s critical to test out using Multitudes to ensure these browser extensions don’t interfere with the Multitudes web application. In rare cases, we have seen a browser extension may block buttons or other important platform features. If you suspect a browser extension may be causing an issue, we recommend letting us know and pausing use of the browser extension while you are using Multitudes.
- When setting up the student facing device, we recommend ensuring the URL bar is not visible to the student. To ensure the URL bar is not visible to the student, please follow these steps on the student facing device (please note specific directions may differ per browser):
(1) Enter full screen
(2) Open "View" menu
(3) De-select "Always show toolbar in fullscreen" - For some timed tasks, Multitudes relies on your computer’s clock to accurately reflect starting or ending timestamps. Please turn on automatic time syncing so your computer’s clock updates automatically. Please note, just manually setting your clock to the accurate time is not sufficient automatic time syncing is required.
- We recommend working your IT team to your computer's automatic time syncing is turned on. While every computer is different, here is some guidance on how to ensure your computer's clock syncs automatically:
